V-Discs
(all 12" pressings)
V Discs were produced by the Music Branch, Special Services Div, Army Service Forces and
supplied to the American Services during WWII.
With the Japanese occupation of French Indo China the import of shellac was severely reduced. Shellac had many
uses and was in great demand for products to assist in the war effort. Also many of the 78 rpm shellac records
were broken during transport. Consequently a substitute had to be found and a Canadian Vynyl product was found
to be ideal.
